Time flies when you’re having fun. It’s been a year since we announced that Dr. Thomas Auxter was transferring from our primary care clinic in Fort Myers to his medical home at our clinic in Venice. Dr. Auxter is continuing to grow his family of patients at VIPcare Venice.
We’d love the opportunity to reintroduce you to our star provider. He is board-certified in family medicine and has more than 35 years of experience caring for patients.
Who is Dr. Thomas Auxter?
Born in Kirksville, MO, Dr. Auxter was no stranger to medicine. For one, he grew up in the birthplace of osteopathic medicine; secondly, his father was an osteopathic surgeon.
When most kids and young adults were out being silly and getting into things, Dr. Auxter was immersed in the world of medicine. At just 16, he was spending his free time working with his father at the local hospital. He often assisted him with surgeries, eager to learn new things.
“It’s all I know,” he said. “I like the challenge of doing things that are tough. It’s very rewarding.”
Naturally, Dr. Auxter earned his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in his hometown. Throughout his career, he worked to help educate and guide medical students at Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Stillwater. Because of his instrumental influence and hard work, he earned a spot in the National Osteopathic Mentor Hall of Fame.
As a physician, Dr. Auxter strongly believes in quality over quantity. He always spends the necessary time with his patients to discuss their medical issues and concerns.
“I don’t want them to leave the clinic with a question,” he said. “I want all questions answered.”
Dr. Auxter has extended his compassionate care for others beyond the clinic, combining two of his passions – medicine and flying. Following 9/11, he became a search and rescue pilot for 20 years and a charter member of Homeland Security.
