It was those very things that originally brought our Largo primary care provider, Dr. George Figueroa, to Florida following medical school. We’re happy he made the move and eventually joined our VIPcare family.
Dr. George Figueroa is a family medicine physician that brings over 32 years of experience to VIPcare and his patients.
Who is Dr. George Figueroa?
Dr. George Figueroa grew up in North Georgia just outside of Chattanooga, T.N. Going into medicine and becoming a doctor was the only option for him – and by choice. It was a career he set his mind to at a very young age. His mom was a nurse, and growing up, he reveled in her medical stories, that only further sparked his interest in medicine.
“I can’t ever remember not wanting to be a physician,” he said. “I never remember considering any other career seriously.”
At first, he stayed close to home and earned his undergraduate degree from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. However, it didn’t take much convincing for him to escape the blustery winters.
So, off to Loma Linda University in Southern California, he went for medical school. But his decision to have a warmer climate didn’t end there. The climate played a role in helping to select a residency.
“I was looking for someplace warm,” he said.
Which led him to make the trek cross country and land in the Florida Sunshine State to complete his residency at Bayfront Medical Center located in Tampa Bay.
After completing his residency, Dr. Figueroa knew Tampa Bay was home and that it was where he was meant to settle.
Tampa Bay has allowed him to enjoy water sports, including kayaking and scuba diving. In addition, he has perfect weather for fixing up old cars.
But more than anything, Florida has provided him a medical home to live out his passion.
“The best thing about being a physician is being able to help people,” he said. “I love solving problems, and I just feel good when I can just go in, take a problem list and go through it and come up with a solution that makes the patient happy, feel better, and live longer. It’s my passion.”
