VIPcare continues to grow, and our providers are excited to join us on our journey to bring Better Health to new senior communities. Dr. Esenbike Bek has been part of our family since 2019, and she has helped us grow our primary care clinic in North Port. She is now heading over to Punta Gorda and helping us start a healthcare family there.
Dr. Bek is a board-certified internist specializing in providing primary care for geriatric patients and brings over 30 years of experience to VIPcare and her patients.
Who is Dr. Esenbike Bek?
Dr. Bek was born in Turkey and immigrated to the States with her family when she was two years old. She grew up in the boroughs of New York City, including Brooklyn and Queens.
It was her father that inspired her to seek a career in medicine. Her father was a WWII veteran who was sadly captured by the Nazis and sent to a concentration camp. While he was in confinement, he witnessed how doctors in the camp were given preferential treatment. They were given shelter and food, things that were not always supplied to camp prisoners.
Her father shared his recollections with Dr. Bek as a child. He told stories about how those who were not doctors didn’t have the same value. Educated or not, they were beaten, starved, and tortured.
“He realized that if you’re a doctor, it’s an international language and job,” she said. “It’s recession-proof, war-proof. You always have a job and are treated decently.”
And so her father’s wartime memory pushed her to become a doctor.
Her Medical Journey
Dr. Bek attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook before returning to her homeland of Turkey to earn her medical degree. Following medical school, she returned to the states and completed her residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center in New York.
While living in New York, Dr. Bek opened a private practice helping those in need. However, after many winters and lots of snow, she decided it was time for a change.
“I was sick and tired of shoveling snow,” she said. “Three years in a row, we had blizzards, and I said, ‘that’s it, let me try something different.'”
So, to Florida she came.
Dr. Bek is proud to be a member of VIPcare. She loves being able to put all her time and focus on the patient, and she is excited to be helping VIPcare open the doors to our new primary care clinic in Punta Gorda.
“VIPcare for me stands for very important patient,” she said. “When they walk through the door, they are treated like rock stars.”
