About Me
Edgar Valdez Quinonez is a board-certified nurse practitioner with more than 30 years of experience in the medical field. Originally from Ecuador, he earned his medical degree from Universidad de Guayaquil and completed his residency training at Universidad Catolica de Guayaquil. Before transitioning to nursing in the United States, Edgar practiced as a physician in both Ecuador and Colombia, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. After moving to the U.S., he proudly served in the U.S. Army and later earned his Master of Public Health from Nova Southeastern University. He continued his education at Florida International University, completing the Foreign-Educated Physician to Nurse Practitioner program, where he obtained his nursing degrees and became board-certified in adult-gerontology primary care through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Edgar’s passion for medicine began in childhood and has guided his lifelong commitment to caring for others. He believes in treating each patient like family and takes an integrative, whole-person approach to care—focusing not only on treating conditions but also on educating and empowering patients to improve their overall well-being. In his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with his family, participating in group exercise activities, cooking, and reading.

Skin Cancer in Older Adults: Types and Risks
Skin cancer in older adults refers to the abnormal growth of skin cells that often develops after years of cumulative sun exposure, natural aging changes in the skin, and a weakened immune system. It is one of the most common cancers in the United States, and older adults are especially at risk because skin damage builds over a lifetime. While the condition can sound alarming, most skin cancers are highly treatable when detected early.

Benefits of Socialization in Older Adults
Humans are naturally social beings. Meaningful relationships and regular interaction with others help support emotional, mental, and physical health throughout every stage of life. For older adults, staying socially connected becomes even more important for maintaining independence, happiness, and overall well-being.
