Dr. Edwards-Miller is a board-certified primary care physician specializing in internal medicine and geriatrics. She is one of our 5-star providers at our primary care clinic in Ocala on 17th street. Dr. Edwards-Miller strongly believes caring for patients also means caring for their families. Who is Dr. Myriam Edwards-Miller?
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Dr. Edwards-Miller grew up in Puerto Rico and spent her childhood flying between the two islands. Being part of a big family of medical people, it only seemed natural for Dr. Edwards-Miller to follow suit.
“Pretty much medicine has been a part of my life since I was little,” she said.
She earned her medical degree from the University Central Del Caribe School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. She then moved to the United States to complete her internal medicine residency along with a geriatric medicine fellowship at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, MI.
During her time in Michigan, Dr. Edwards-Miller practiced in a variety of clinical settings, including primary care, hospital, and extended care facilities. In addition, she taught at Michigan State and served as the Program Director for Hurley Medical Center’s Geriatric Medicine Fellowship program.
“I loved Michigan; it was good to me,” Dr. Edwards-Miller said. “It was too cold.
She finally got some reprieve from the cold winters after her husband retired, and they made the move to Florida.
“We fell in love with Ocala,” she said. “I love the location. I love the fact we are close to major cities, but you’re not part of the big city.”
Once settled in Ocala, Dr. Edwards-Miller found her medical home and has enjoyed getting to know her patients.
“I really try to become part of their family,” she said. “For me, it’s more like a ministry, just being there and being able to help patients with chronic illnesses. What I enjoy is the fact that you are with the patients in what is probably the most vulnerable times in their lives and just being there and being able to navigate the medical challenges they might have.”
