Our VIPcare Ocala primary care clinics continue to grow. We are proud to welcome one of the newest members of our health care team, Walter Argueta, APRN. Walter has joined our team at the Ocala SR-40 primary care clinic as an advanced practice registered nurse.
Walter is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with a passion for helping others and making a difference in their health by promoting lifestyle changes that will improve their well-being.
Who is Walter Argueta, APRN?
Growing up, Walter always knew his destined plans. To be a doctor.
“Since I was six years old, I told my parents that I wanted to be a doctor, and no one could change my mind growing up,” he said.
Walter was born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and is the youngest of five children. At a young age, Walter had a passion for helping people in need. He followed his dream and became Dr. Argueta earning his medical degree in Honduras. He practiced medicine for four years before coming to the States to get his Master’s in Public Health at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Walter’s plan was never to stay in the U.S., but he was asked to stay and work following his degree. He eventually combined his medical knowledge and passion for helping others and became a medical missions program manager. This position allowed him to plan, recruit, train, and lead teams of healthcare professionals to different parts of the world.
“At first, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but soon after, it became my newly found passion,” he said. “It’s an incredible journey. Once you go on a medical mission trip, your life will never be the same.”
Walter eventually learned of a program that Florida International University offers that helps foreign medical doctors get a nurse practitioner degree. He applied and got accepted.
“Patient care as a nurse practitioner is very similar to what I was doing in Honduras,” he said. “It felt great to be able to see patients again.”
He may not be able to include the M.D. at the end of his name here in the States, but Walter still has the desire, passion, and compassionate care that earned him that title in Honduras and that has made him an outstanding advanced practice registered nurse.
