Dr. Clary Montalvo was born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. She knew from a young age she wanted to be a doctor. After participating in a summer medical immersion program during her last year of high school, she decided to attend medical school to fulfill her dream.
Growing up, Dr. Montalvo’s mother told her, “if you have good health, you have everything.” This notion has helped mold her into the practicing physician she is today.
“This has always been my goal with every one of my patients,” she said, “keep them as healthy as possible so they can have a good life and enjoy their families.”
Dr. Montalvo earned her medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara-School of Medicine in Jalisco, Mexico, and completed her residency at Mayaguez Medical Center in Puerto Rico.
“The opportunity to improve the quality of life of my patients is the most rewarding thing about medicine and being a physician,” Dr. Montalvo said.
Dr. Montalvo won first place in the ACP Puerto Rico Chapter Clinical Vignettes and Research Competition for her research on obstructive sleep apnea in the Puerto Rican population.
In her free time, Dr. Montalvo enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children. She also enjoys photography and going to the beach.
