He attended the University of South Florida for his undergraduate studies and obtained his medical degree at the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. During his medical career, Jose has held several clinical and administrative positions in diverse medical areas, including Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, utilization review, medical education, correctional medicine, and clinical research. In his free time, he enjoys music and photography.
