We’d like to introduce you to Dr. John Ehrmann from our Pensacola Davis Hwy primary care clinic as well as our primary care clinic on Nine Mile Road. He has been with VIPcare for a year and a half and has truly been a true example of what VIPcare is about. He’s compassionate, driven, and dedicated to achieving Better Health for his patients.
Dr. Ehrmann is recently retired from the U.S. Navy and is board-certified in family medicine with over 20 years of experience practicing medicine.
Who is Dr. John Ehrmann?
Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Ehrmann grew up in Indiana. As a young boy, he played sports which ultimately kindled his interest in medicine.
“I was always fascinated with injury and illness and the question why, ‘why does this happen?'” he said. “I knew from a pretty early age I was interested in medicine in some fashion.”
However, it wouldn’t be until later in life that he actually pursued his interest.
Dr. Ehrmann attended Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology. At that point in his life, he was still unsure of his destined path and what part of medicine he wanted to pursue. As a result, he decided to join the military as a member of the U.S. Navy to explore his options.
Dr. Ehrmann served his country in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He finally found his way to medical school during that time, earning his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Services in Bethesda, MD.
Following graduation, he completed his residency at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola before returning to Maryland to be a staff physician at the Naval Health Clinic in Patuxent River.
The Road Back to Florida and VIPcare
Over the course of the next several years, Dr. Erhmann practiced medicine in various settings before making his way back to North Florida.
“Pensacola is very friendly, best duty station I’ve been to,” he said. “It’s a city with a small-town feel.”
Dr. Ehrmann retired from the U.S. Navy while practicing as a staff physician at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola. And after speaking with former Navy physician colleague and VIPcare provider Dr. Amy Reed, Dr. Ehrmann knew VIPcare was where he was meant to be.
“I’m really excited to be working for VIPcare,” he said. “There really is greener grass, and it’s here.”
Dr. Ehrmann loves what he does and says it is a privilege. “The exam room is my sanctuary, and being in there with people and the fact that they trust you and allow you into their lives is really special.”
On nights and weekends, you can find Dr. Ehrmann spending time outdoors with his family tending to the many animals they have on their five acres north of town.
“We really love animals,” he said. “We have a lot of rescue animals – horses, donkeys, ducks, cats, dogs, you name it.”
