You met Dr. Joseph Geffen back in February of this year. And in less than a year, he has made a lasting impression on many of our patients. He began his journey with VIPcare at our primary care clinic in Clermont. That was supposed to be temporary as he was awaiting the opening of our Ocoee clinic. He has since made VIPcare Winter Garden his home.
Dr. Geffen is board-certified in internal medicine with clinical specialties in wound care and geriatrics.
“I love being well-rounded enough to help a wide variety of people while simultaneously having the time to get to know the patients over years,” he said. “I’m so excited to have found a practice where I can utilize all these skills!”
Who is Dr. Joseph Geffen?
Dr. Geffen, originally from Savannah, GA, and the son of a family practitioner and a clinical psychologist, seemed destined for a career in medicine.
“Growing up, I always admired the work my parents do as healthcare providers,” Dr. Geffen said. “The way they are able to help people is inspirational.”
However, Dr. Geffen almost went in a different direction. While in his 20s, he was an electronic music DJ and even explored the music industry for a few years. He had and still has a passion for music and is a talented musician who plays multiple instruments, including the piano and the guitar.
But he ultimately found his desire to connect with and help people suited the medical industry best. So, he headed to Florida to attend medical school. He earned his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale and completed his residency at the University of Florida Jacksonville branch.
During his residency, Dr. Geffen quickly learned each specialty has its own attractions, from the exciting cerebral realm of critical care to the scientifically fascinating fields of cardiology and rheumatology. He soaked up all that he could to help him become a well-rounded provider.
Upon entering private practice, Dr. Geffen was approached to help out at the local wound care center.
“It was a great experience to see wounds heal and solve problems in addition to disease management,” he said. “It was very fulfilling to help people close these debilitating wounds, which had sometimes been ongoing for years.”
As a provider, Dr. Geffen loves to bond with his patients and help educate them about health and provide counseling for long-term positive lifestyle changes. “I feel VIPcare is revolutionary in that they will provide me with resources to be successful in what drew me to medicine in the first place: doctoring.”
