VIPcare Fort Myers is growing! We are proud to welcome one of the newest members of our health care team, Dr. Julia Belanger. Dr. Belanger has joined our team at the Fort Myers primary care clinic located on Medical Lane.
Dr. Belanger is board-certified and brings over seven years of experience practicing medicine specializing in family medicine and geriatrics. She is excited to join the VIPcare team and looks forward to helping her new family of patients strive for Better Health with preventative care. “The earlier we change our habits for healthier ones, the better,” she said.
Who is Dr. Julia Belanger?
Dr. Belanger grew up in the suburbs of Montreal in Canada before coming to the States to complete her medical degree. After finishing her undergraduate studies in anatomy and cellular biology from McGill University, Dr. Belanger left Canada to begin medical school.
She attended the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten. From there, she did some clinical rotations in northern England and finally made her way to the United States. She finished her clinical rotations in the Bronx in New York City and then completed her residency in Winter Park, Fl.
Dr. Belanger was always drawn to the medical field but considered another area within it at one time. “I was also interested in becoming a pharmacist but settled on a doctor to be more hands-on with patient care,” she said.
It was during her residency that Dr. Belanger quickly developed a love for Florida and all it and its beaches have to offer. While living in Orlando during that time, Dr. Belanger vacationed in Miami Beach during the Thanksgiving holiday. It was on that trip she met her husband, Rolando. They later married in the Keys on Islamorada and together have a 16-month-old son, Maximo. Trips to Disney and Sanibel Island are favorite family pastimes.
Prior to joining VIPcare, Dr. Belanger resided in Maryland, where she was a practicing primary care physician and teacher at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She said she enjoyed teaching but is ready to dedicate herself to her patients.
Dr. Belanger couldn’t be happier to be back in Florida, a state she said is a big part of her life.
