Who is Dr. Robert Harpold?
A native of West Virginia, Dr. Harpold was born and raised Charleston, WV. He completed both his undergraduate studies and medical school at the University of West Virginia in Morgantown.
Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Harpold remained in West Virginia and completed his residency at Charleston Area Medical Center.
From a very early age, Dr. Harpold knew he wanted to go into a field pertaining to science. “It was my favorite subject,” he said.
However, he wasn’t quite set on medical school following his undergraduate degree. He initially considered attending dental school. So much so, he applied and got accepted before making his final decision. At the time, his sister who is also a physician was in her residency at Georgetown University. He decided it would benefit him to shadow her for a few days watching what she did.
In addition, Dr. Harpold went to observe his brother-in-law’s father who happened to be a dentist to gain a different perspective. “Just after a couple days, I decided I didn’t want to look inside people’s mouths for the rest of my life,” he said. “So, I decided that day I was not going to go to dental school.”
As a result, he declined his dental school acceptance and took an extra year to prepare for medical school.

Over the course of his medical career, Dr. Harpold has worked in both office and hospital-based settings. Hands down, he says he prefers being in an office. “You actually get to develop relationships with patients,” he said. “People you’ve gotten to take care of sometimes from the beginning as a new patient through many years.
Before moving to Florida to join his wife, also a West Virginia native, he said he looked at many practices to join, but that VIPcare stood out for one big reason. “I really liked their setup of how they allowed you to see people and actually to have time to take care of them.”
