Meet one of our newest providers of the VIPcare family, Dr. Veronica Cordero. She has joined the medical team at Ocala SR 40 and is assisting Dr. Anthony Espinoza and Dr. Jeronimo Lopez.
She’s excited to join VIPcare and is looking forward to establishing her own family of patients. She is fluent in English and Spanish and specializes in primary care.
Who is Dr. Veronica Cordero?
Dr. Cordero, a native of Puerto Rico, grew up in a tight-knit family and community focused around serving others. Her parents led a youth group in their local church, which helped to foster her desire to help others with heart and devotion.
“We all began to dream together and support each other,” Dr. Cordero said. “I found in medicine my two passions, science and helping others.”
She still remembers to this day the feelings she experienced when she began her journey in medicine. “I will never forget how I felt when I started working as a student at the hospital,” she said. “I remember feeling this special sensation that made me confirm my call to this selfless career. I knew it was my destiny.”
And So Her Journey Begins
Dr. Cordero attended the University of Puerto Rico for her undergraduate studies and earned her medical degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Santo Domingo. She then went on to complete a rotating internship at Hospital de la Concepción in San German, Puerto Rico.
Throughout her young career, Dr. Cordero has worked in a variety of diverse medical settings. In addition, she has completed continuing education in several areas of medicine, including infectious disease and dermatology.
“When I was a student, I worked with one of the smartest doctors I’ve ever met, and he told me once that to be a good doctor, you need to stay up to date with the medical knowledge, so I’m always open to learn more and expand my own knowledge,” she said. “I never take the opportunities and challenges that this field offers for granted. Every one of them is a learning experience and an opportunity to grow.”
Dr. Cordero not only enjoys helping her patients achieve a better quality of life, but she loves being a part of their lives.
“They will always have a special story to tell, and those inspire me and give me the motivation to try to be a better doctor every day,” she said.
