He always goes above and beyond to partner with his patients.
Dr. Burnett is a board-certified family medicine physician who brings almost 30 years of experience to VIPcare and his patients.
Who is Dr. Wayne Burnett?
At just 10 years old, Dr. Burnett was told by his mother that he was “anointed to be appointed a physician healer.”
“I was like, ‘Mom, I’m just busy watching cartoons right now, so I think I’ll get back to you on that one,'” he said.
But his mother must have known something no one else did because she predicted successfully. Although, it took some time to come to fruition.
Originally from Ashtabula, Ohio, Dr. Burnett migrated to the South shortly after high school. He landed in Homestead, FL, where he wore many different hats.
“Me and Mike Rowe go way back with dirty jobs,” he laughed. “A lot of W-2 jobs.”
His jobs included a night auditor, shoe salesman, truck driver, shop foreman, assistant mechanic, private investigator, and park ranger.
“A lot of different jobs I did all to prepare me for my ultimate aspiration, which was being a family physician,” he said. “You need to understand people from all walks of life to be able to really understand how they walk in their shoes so you can serve them the best.”
The Road to Becoming A Healing Servant
Dr. Burnett earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, FL. He then completed his residency in family medicine at the Franciscan Medical Center.
“My passion was always to be a doctor,” he said. “I didn’t know I was going to be a family doctor, but it fits my personality because I have an insatiable thirst for the curious.”
Over the years, Dr. Burnett has practiced in various medical settings and models. He’s experienced the fast-paced environment of working in a hospital as well as being on a more personal level with his patients while in private practice.
“I was really able to work as the physician healer that I wanted to be,” he said about being in private practice.
However, he still wanted to be able to do more and give more to his patients. This is what ultimately led him to VIPcare, where he is able to spend the necessary time with his patients and be the physician he desires to be.
Dr. Burnett is a spiritual man and credits God, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King for helping to shape who he is. “Those three impressioned me to actually strive to be the best servant that I can to my patients.”
He admits that his days can get hectic, and nights and weekends can get interrupted, but he always gets pleasure and satisfaction from his job.
“I’ve been doing this for almost 30 years, and I’ve never tired of it,” he said. “I’m surprised how fast the time has flown.”
