Who is Dr. Wendy Worsley?
Dr. Worsley was born in Mesa, AZ, but jokingly says she has some southerner in her now that she has lived in the South for the last 30 years and specifically Florida for the last 20 years.
Medicine captured Dr. Worsley’s attention early on as a teenager while visiting family in Idaho. Her uncle was an OBGYN and would share stories about his medical career and being a physician. Dr. Worsley was captivated and immediately drawn to the field.
“It was just really interesting to me,” she said about hearing her uncle’s stories. “I just thought that sounded like such a great life.”
As with most children, other things caught Dr. Worsley’s attention, and the idea of becoming a doctor left her mind as she made her way through school. But she never truly let the idea of medicine escape too far from her mind.
“Nothing ever really captured my imagination as much as medicine,” she said.
Dr. Worsley attended East Carolina University, where she graduated with honors earning her undergraduate degree in biology. She then earned her medical degree from Brody School of Medicine before completing her residency at Vidant Medical Center.
Being a physician is everything Dr. Worsley thought it would be. She loves being able to make an impact on someone’s life. “I have found that the patient-physician relationship is what really makes the biggest difference to my patients,” she said. “I love it when someone comes back to me and says, ‘oh, you took such good care of my mom; I’m so happy I get to be your patient now.’ It’s very satisfying.”
