“We literally care for our patients like we would care for our family,” said Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Sandra Dawson. “I’ve never been anywhere else where you’re given that leeway.”
Sandra “Sandi” Dawson is a nurse practitioner at our Tavares primary care clinic. She brings over 26 years of experience as a nurse to VIPcare and her patients.
Who is Sandi Dawson, APRN?
Sandi Dawson might just be a unicorn. You know, one of those enigmas. It’s not very often that you meet a Florida native that still lives in Florida, but that’s Sandi. Sandi is originally from Ocala, or horse country as she describes it, and now currently resides just south of her hometown in Eustis.
As a young child, Sandi was the little girl who received the medical kits for Christmas—tearing the packages open so she could chase her brothers to give them shots and provide medical care.
“It’s always been in my blood,” she said of nursing. “There’s never been anything else that I’ve ever wanted.”
It’s a path set before her at a young age and one she has remained on as an adult. She became a registered nurse and practiced in Ocala for 20 years before deciding to return to school to earn her bachelor’s in nursing. She graduated from the University of Florida and then headed north to Florida State University, where she earned her master’s in nursing to become a nurse practitioner.
A career in nursing certainly hasn’t disappointed Sandi. “My job is amazing,” she said. “I love caring for my patients. It’s something that I look forward to every day. They share their life with me; they return the love … there’s no better job out there.”
Sandi is coming up on her sixth anniversary with VIPcare. A family she is more than happy to be a part of. “VIPcare allows us to care for our patients, period,” she said.
She does admit VIPcare started as a “job opportunity” and that she was a bit skeptical when everyone kept saying how great and different VIPcare was during her onboarding. “But it’s true,” she said, “the curtain has never fallen. It’s always been the same. We care for our patients like we would care for our family, end of conversation.”
