VIPcare has been busy lately. We just opened two brand-new clinics in our Southwest Florida region – VIPcare Bonita Springs and VIPcare Estero. Our primary care provider for those two clinics is Dr. Fara Castillo. Dr. Castillo is new to VIPcare, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her join our team.
She is a highly experienced physician with a deep passion for medicine and patient care. She brings over 29 years of experience practicing medicine and is bilingual.
Who is Dr. Fara Castillo?
Dr. Castillo was born and raised in Cuba. From a young age, she can remember taking a strong interest in medicine.
“I was a curious child and remember trying to take my dolls apart to see what they were made of and giving some “medication” to heal them,” she said.
Helping to foster that interest was Dr. Castillo’s uncle, who was a pediatric orthopedist. She remembers seeing his medical books and listening to his work stories as a child.
“Before I was able to read or understand the science of medicine, I found it fascinating to look at his anatomy books,” she said. “In the evenings, my uncle would share exciting stories about how deformities could be improved with casts, braces, and devices. His excitement about the advances in medicine and patients’ lives being improved or healed through his care really touched me as a child.”
As soon as she was old enough to truly know what a doctor did – “heal those that were broken” – Dr. Castillo never looked back on her career choice.
She earned her medical degree from the University of Medical Sciences in Havana and completed three years of an Anesthesiology residency program before switching to Family Medicine. From there, she worked in primary care for over eight years, building relationships and partnering with patients.
“Primary Care is a personal choice for me as I have watched my grandparents, parents, and relatives age,” she said. “Their health has been affected by a wide variety of circumstances, and I have seen how important it is to have a long-term primary care doctor who understands a patient’s personal medical history.”
Transitioning to the States
In 2008, Dr. Castillo and her family moved to Florida. Relishing in all it offers, from warm weather to beautiful beaches and much opportunity.
“The United States has so many opportunities and fields of medicine to pursue,” she said. “Being at the forefront of advances in medicine and being able to offer patients the latest in technology is something the United States does well. Having a large, interconnected network of expert colleagues gives me an opportunity to provide the best practices for my patients.”
Dr. Castillo is excited to join VIPcare, a place where she can be the empathetic, good listener, and organized physician she strives to be.
“As a doctor having an opportunity to serve my community with quality makes VIPcare a great fit for me,” she said. “I believe understanding my patients’ concerns, both physically and emotionally, will help them become more proactive in their own care.”
Some fun facts about Dr. Castillo. She loves to dance Salsa and is an avid gardener with beautiful orchids blooming at home.
